General Info

A detached cottage situated close to the owner’s home, just outside the village of Silecroft on Whicham Valley. Sited at the base of Blackcombe, with the sea beyond in the South West corner of the Lake District National Park. Wainwright’s Black Combe walk can be started directly from the door of Hickory Cottage. The rural location and open plan living makes Hickory Cottage the perfect countryside retreat for couples. Upon entering the cottage, you are greeted by a bright and light open plan living area with comfortable sofas where you can relax comfortably and admire the countryside views, or enjoy an evening in front of the TV. A well-equipped kitchen lies across from this, with all the amenities you need to cook lovely meals after a day exploring. To the side of the living area is a cosy double bedroom with views of the garden. The cottage is completed by a family bathroom with Velux window and heater. Outside the cottage there is a paved patio area, complete with patio sofa and chairs so you can sit back and enjoy a refreshing drink in the sun. The patio is completely enclosed, providing privacy and a real little sun trap for that lazy day when you just want to relax, while a luxurious soak in the hot tub is the perfect end to your day, enclosed by a gazebo. Silecroft offers an excellent pub and a golf course, set on the West Coast train branch line, which travels up the Cumbrian coast to Ravenglass and beyond, as far as Carlisle. Just a short walk away is a beautiful, safe sandy beach; the perfect place for a relaxed stroll beside the sea, or to watch the Clydesdales Heavy Horses canter through the surf. The ancient market town of Broughton-in-Furness is within easy driving distance, as is the seaside village of Ravenglass. There are a range of walks and attractions to take advantage of, including breathtaking views from Blackcombe where Wales, and Scotland can all be seen, the recently opened coastal walk from Silecroft to Whitehaven, the stunning wooded trails or scenic boat trips of Lake Windermere, Scafell Pike, the homes of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter or the historic and haunted Muncaster Castle. Perfectly located to take in the famous landmarks and historical attractions of the Lake District, this property is a peaceful cottage which can be enjoyed throughout the year. Hidden gem

Lovely week spent in this comfortable cottage. Blessed with good weather which helped to explore the area. We used the local train to visit ravenglass and walked to Muncaster Castle. Haverigg nature reserve is also worth a visit. The major lakes are about 30 mins drive away. The location is great for easy access to the village beach and pub. The other hidden gem of the area are hosts Dave and Helen. They were really helpful nothing too much trouble, they kindly sent my mobile onto me when I left it there this was much appreciated. Would hope to return some time in the future.

Just returned from a very pleasant 7 day break at this well thought out cottage for 2. Spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed. Ideal for exploring the Lake District. 5 minute drive to Millom for shops. 8 minute walk to the pub in Silecroft village and a 2 minute drive to Silecroft beach, which is beautiful. I highly recommend Hickory Cottage.
