General Info

This 14th-century castle is the perfect retreat for a luxurious gathering with family, where you can relax with your feet up around the wood burner.

Knock Old Castle dates back to the 14th-century and has been fantastically resurrected by the current owner into a truly unique, whimsical, fairytale castle. In what has been a 5 year long project, this detached castle has been lovingly restored. Local craftsmen have utilised their skills, imagination and expertise to make this property into something that will amaze every guest.
From the quirky doors and interior, where no straight lines will be found, to the sauna in the tower, and the painted ceiling in the keep, to the stunning views over the sea from the glass domed lookout, and not forgetting the sheep grazing on the wild flower roof. Old Knock Castle will be sure to exceed every expectation.
The castle is situated on the Ayrshire coast, in a private setting, 200 yards from the owner’s home, with only a short walk from the shore and close to the bustling town of Largs with its shops, restaurants and promenade. This holiday property is ideally located to explore the islands of Cumbrae, Arran and the Isle of Bute. Ferries run to Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula, giving access to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore, and is an ideal location for cyclists and walkers, with Skelmorlie heralding the start of the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk. Inland there is walking, cycling, gardens and castles to visit, riding, fishing, racing and a choice of golf courses, including the world famous open venues of Troon Prestwick and Turnberry.
Culzean Castle Country Park, extending over 550 acres, has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day trip, with rail links available from the town. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Castle was amazing, very comfortable beds, hot tub was great, views superb. Castle could have been a bit cleaner though. A lot of spider webs, even for a castle.

Wow, a truly fantastic place to stay and a stunning view. A great base for sailing from the local marina or day trips to various islands via the nearby ferries. The back story of the restoration process is fascinating and our children loved the quirky layout and the hot tub.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding day at knock old castle on 3rd July 2021. It was the perfect venue for us. Although not a wedding venue, the owners were very accommodating and allowed us to share our day with close family at the castle and decorate how we wished. Could not have asked for a better experience. We had a fantastic weekend. Thank you.

Fabulous break in a stunning castle and location.

Lovely, quirky accommodation. Not really suitable for someone that can’t manage stairs though. Castle set in beautiful grounds and hosts were very helpful.

WOW WOW WOW What an experience & such a fantastic place to stay. The pictures are amazing enough however, the actual “lived” experience was second to none. This was our first stay in a castle but certainly won’t be our last…..can’t wait to book up again. The surrounding countryside and small town with plenty of quaint little shops & restaurants were a great addition to the experience. Knocks Old Castle is an unreal residence and the whole family loved staying here, the history and information that was available about the renovation made it an even more interesting stay. Wi-if signal was great and the quirkiness of the castle made for a brilliant holiday. The decor throughout was very modern and historical capturing the true spirit of a modern Castle. I would highly recommend staying here for a truly magical experience
