Lovely wild life on the door step, rabbits and birds, however lodg itself needs a bit of maintenance- bathrooms smell and floor needs redoing, no mirror in a bathroom and horrible internet connection (most of the time no internet at all). Tv in bedrooms are not working. Living area is bright and specious but sofa could do with replacement as the existing one is hard and uncomfortable. Some lovely walks close by but site itself has a huge potential that could be used much better.

I booked this chalet because my wife and son are disabled and have mobility issues. The chalet has obviously been furnished to accommodate wheelchair users. There was a very low level, double bed in the main bedroom. My wife wasn't able to get up off the bed without my help. The furniture in the living room was also low and she couldn't raise herself up from here either without my help. On the positive side, the chalet was immaculate and the hot tub was amazing. The kitchen had everything needed. There was also a telescope for star gazing but we didn't get any clear skies!

Thoroughly enjoyed a week long stay at the McArdle. Apart from patchy Wi-Fi, the facilities are first rate (the Espresso Machine is a nice touch). An electrically-heated Hot Tub is a big improvement on the wood-burner at the Straker! The location of the Lodge commands a striking view across the valley and a glimpse of the reservoir in the distance. The staff at Calvert are always very pleasant and eager to help. Having read an earlier review, I was slightly apprehensive about how thorough the pre-arrival cleaning would be. Shouldn't have been concerned: the whole place was spotless (and there's a lot of glass!). Will certainly stay again.
