Close to the Cornish coast. You will find Oak Cottage set in a courtyard with two other cottages at Carpenters Tinney. The cottage offers couples, friends or a family, a nice cosy cottage away from the hassle of everyday life. The property is located on the Devon and Cornwall border just 8 miles inland from Bude and within the grounds (but away from the cottages) is the River Tamar, the border between Devon and Cornwall.
Carpenters Tinney is a small holding at the end of a tree-lined drive, where you will have 11-acres to explore, relax and unwind. There is a large garden where you can meet the animals and wander down to the bottom fields, a natural environment where you can sit and watch the wildlife. You can even have a go at fishing from the riverbank. Carpenters Tinney is an ideal place to switch off and re-energize.
The gated decking area with the shared, heated, outdoor 5m swimming pool is located just outside the courtyard. A hot tub is available for the ultimate treat (open from Sept to the end of June), but as this may not appeal to everyone, it is at an extra charge. You have your own sitting-out area, and in the courtyard there is a small stone barn where there are toys, body boards, wind breaks and even buckets and spades that you can borrow.
Use of the owners’ washing machine & tumble dryer is available at cost. One small/medium sized dog is welcome and there is an allocated area for your dog to be let off the lead.
If you wish to be active, the cottages are not far from the beaches of Bude and Widemouth Bay, ideal for surfing, bodyboarding, building sandcastles and crabbing. Water sports and additional fishing are available at Tamar and Roadford Lakes. Horse riding, golf courses and cycle trails are nearby, and there are some lovely walks along the coast, or you could even venture onto Dartmoor.
The cottage is a good base for the Cornish and Devon coastline; you can get straight onto the main routes to Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac, or you can continue all the way to Penzance and Land’s End. Or head north along the coast to Hartland where you can see the Isle of Lundy, travel on to Clovelly, Westwood Ho!, Lynton and Lynmouth. This location also offers easy access to the south coast as you can reach The Eden Project, St Ives, Polperro and Plymouth all in about an hour.
There are a number of places to visit nearby, including National Trust properties, gardens, wildlife parks, theme parks and steam railways, something for everyone. The cottage is rural so you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, but the nearest shop is 2¾ miles, pub and restaurant 4¼ miles. Read More
Amazing week away at the beautiful oak cottage. We were made very welcome by Debbie, Steve & Curtis. Stunning & peaceful surroundings and a cosy cottage to come back to each day was so lovely. The cottage is out the way and you will need a car to get everywhere, we were happy with this with the current social distancing. Really beautiful walks in the grounds, we pond dipped, played cricket and swam in the onsite pool. Not forgetting the array of lovely farm animals. We miss our morning chats with Taylor the pig. We wouldn’t hesitate to Book again.
We stayed at oak cottage for a week, there were five of us and the cottage itself was excellent with a hot tub, access to grounds which had live stock, a children's playground, there was a well signed walk which led down to the river which was lovely. The location is good if you don't mind driving as it was 8 mile from bude and roughly 4 miles from nearest pub. The owners live on site and were brilliant, very friendly and happy to advise on the best things in the area, they left a cream tea for us on arrival which was a lovely touch. Also the precautions taken due to covid were excellent therefore we had no concerns regarding this.
The cottage and grounds were excellent. Debbie made us so welcome. Everything you needed was provided. This place is a little gem and we will definitely return.
Owner very friendly and helpful, cottage was comfortable but small. Hot tub was great though across path from cottage and not next to it. Lovely grounds, very peaceful. Only negative, it’s in the middle of nowhere down narrow and very bumpy country lanes, a 4x4 would be an advantage. Also, watch out for electric bill, we were there 2 weeks, weather was cold and wet, so we did need to stay in cottage a couple of days, but didn’t expect a bill of over £100!
Ticked every box for a great family get away. Beautiful setting and hosts were amazing.
A bit off the beaten track, but so peaceful because of that. Very well equipped, comfortable and lovely decor. Hot tub wonderful. Grounds well kept and perfect for evening walks. Excellent Waitrose in nearby Holsworthy.
Amazing place to stay the owners were wonderfully accommodating. The cottage had everything you could need included for your stay. My only advice would be that the cottage specified how bad the roads me my car was too low to the ground to cope with the pot holes and secondly make it clearer the additional fees to be added on at the end of your holiday. I paid extra for the use of the pool.
All in all a lovely little cottage and the owner Debbie is very obliging.
Really loved staying, felt very welcome. The cottage is off the beaten track, but that makes it more special. Would recommend, and would stay again.
Fabulous remote location, local amenities as expected were about 3 miles or so away, tranquil setting . Very friendly hosts and onsite facilities were great. Would definitely recommend.
hosts were very welcoming and helpfull .The cottage was very clean and comfortable, perfect for me and my family. Will return .
