Location

Reviews

We really enjoyed our week on the IoW. The location was perfect; beautiful and close to everything we wanted. However, the increased cleaning in the accommodation was poor; bins hadn’t been emptied, hoovering wasn’t good enough and cooking utensils were dirty. One of the cleaners had left a facemask sitting on top of a worktop and the hot tub was overflowing as it had been forgotten about. We understood that some things had to be removed due to Covid but it was strange that hot tub robes had been removed along with the DVD player. The wi-fi was extremely poor so it was impossible to download TV to watch and entertain little ones! All in all, we had a wonderful week in the IoW. Accommodation was comfortable but not up to the usual standards for cleanliness which, given the current situation, was disappointing.

The lodge overall was nice and modern with comfy beds. However a lot had been removed from the lodge - champagne glasses, DVD, iron & board, egg cups, colander, board games, scissors, high chair, Hoover, coffee maker, hairdryer.... so much! Didn’t understand why - how are these items any more risk than saucepans and wine glasses?! We have 3 kids and had no sweep or Hoover for a 7 day stay! All we had was a dustpan & brush (clearly this is somehow safer than a sweep or Hoover!) The dishwasher was full on arriving so my first job was emptying the dishwasher!!! Also considering a thorough clean was supposed to have been done, there were tea stains on cupboards by dishwasher etc and some plates in cupboards had dried food on them. We had no maid service for the whole week, so no cleaning, no change of towels and no cleaning equipment provided to enable us to clean! With 3 kids this was not ideal. We received our ‘welcome pack’ which was fairy liquid & a dish cloth... no tea, coffee etc provided. When we rang to ask where the welcome pack was we were told not provided due to COVID?!?! So when we finally got into our lodge we had to quickly head out again to find a shop (as onsite one closed!). There were also no drawers in the lodge bedrooms. So we had to keep our baby boys clothes, nappies etc and our underwear, socks etc in the suitcase all week. The cot bed also barely fit in the master bedroom - it either blocked part of the bathroom door, or blocked one side of the bed so you had to climb over the bed to get out (depending which way we turned it!). The real let down however was total lack of communication about all this. There was one poster up in the lodge saying restaurant closed and giving menu for takeaway. No info whatsoever about anything else. I know we are coming out of a pandemic so am sure some of above is about staffing levels and keeping people safe etc, but the lack of information and communication was the let down for me. I just didn’t understand some of the above and reasons why....

We arrived at 4.30pm and was told by a young friendly lady we were unable to check in until 5pm. Although we new this, it was very clear there were many other families waiting for there check-in. By this time it was 4.45pm [just 15 minutes to go before being allowed to check in] and many more families were being told the same thing? One person asked to speak to a manager as the que was getting rather large, only to be told by a flustered receptionist "the manager won't come out" we all felt very sorry for the young lady trying to deal with many customers at the same time. At this point the young lady decided to start checking in customers [Sorry I haven't got her name but well done to you] Just one other issue we had was with the hot-tub? By the Wednesday evening the colour of the water had changed to a very dirty colour plus the water had a horrible smell [Because I have a hot-tub at home I immediately knew the chemical levels were very low?] Thursday morning I phoned reception and left a message, someone came out within 25 minutes and carried out some work on the hot-tub [checking the chemical levels] resulting in the water being drained and new water being pumped in plus adding the necessary chemicals to achieve the right balance for us to finally use the hot-tub later in the day.

There were a few issues with cleanliness. We hired a highchair for the week and it was dirty, it had black dust all over it. We had to give it a good clean before putting our baby in it. There were also hairs left in the bath and on the tiles. The final issue was the broken glass that wasn't cleaned up even after asking. However, it was still a lovely lodge and didn't take away from our holiday.

Everything was fine and enjoyed our stay . I just found the cleanliness of the lodge wasn't the best considering you now have to check in later for extra cleaning . Also the bar / reception was closed . And only offering outside seating, although regulations say you can now go inside.

Fabulous lodge very comfortable and clean

Carolyn 10/06/2021

Could have been cleaner and the single beds were comfy but frames were noisy and creaked

We paid extra to have a lodge with a hot tub but considering how tired the accommodation looked we were a little disappointed given the cost we had spent. The hot tub was amazing and we were glad we had it but some floorboards creaked really loadly and looked like they were starting to gape. The white walls and decor were all marked and whilst I appreciate this happens easily with white, it could have been refreshed easily particularly during lockdown when they weren't inhabited and it did take the shine off the accommodation for us given the price we had paid.

A nice lodge which was clean and comfortable but no signs of ‘enhanced’ cleaning. Hot tub was well-maintained and checked frequently. Area around the lodge (100) was very overgrown and the weeds and bushes need to be tamed.
