General Info

A charming stone detached farmhouse situated in the hamlet of Pencoed, two miles from the town of Corwen. This wonderful cottage is located in a slightly elevated position overlooking rolling Dee Valley countryside and the Berwyn Mountains beyond making it an excellent base for friends and families to explore this stunning area. Groes Llwyd is generous in its proportions and provides excellent holiday accommodation with a well thought out interior with comfy furnishings and some wonderful features such as the quarry tiled flooring in the kitchen, exposed beams and stripped wood flooring. The beamed sitting room is light and bright with wonderful views. The impressive inglenook fireplace is a wonderful attribute to the room and the addition of the woodburning stove ensures a warm and relaxing ambience, and with enough comfy seating for everyone is an ideal place to spend time relaxing at the end of a busy day. A second sitting room has been thought out with younger members of the family in mind, and is equipped with beanbags, TV/DVD, and a good selection of board games and puzzles, making it perfect for keeping those entertained when rain stops play in the garden. The farmhouse-style kitchen is well equipped and with a large dining table provides a great place to enjoy family meals. There is also an extremely large and useful utility and drying room, ideal storage for bikes and wet weather gear. Upstairs is the well-appointed family bathroom and four good sized bedrooms, all tastefully decorated and well presented. Two bedrooms are located at the front and enjoy lovely countryside views, both boasting a king-size bed with one benefitting from an en-suite shower room. The two remaining bedrooms offer another king size bed with views over the garden and Berwyn Mountains and a twin bedroom to allow for flexible sleeping arrangements. On a warm summer day or evening you can enjoy your meal outside, or perhaps take afternoon tea on the lawn, whilst keeping a close eye on the children running around and enjoying the fresh air. The cottage is ideally situated for walking with numerous walks, amidst scenic countryside, on the doorstep and the Brenig Way, a 32-mile circular route leading to Llyn Brenig is close by. Shops and pubs are available in both Corwen and Bala but if you fancy something a bit different, you can try a bison burger at Rhug Farm Estate just a couple of minutes’ drive down the road, an ideal place to stock up for that barbecue later on. Corwen is a superb hub for adrenalin-fueled adventure, from kayaking and whitewater rafting to mountain biking or a more relaxing day on the Corwen to Llangollen steam railway. There is also the Snowdonia Surf Centre, Zip World and Bounce Below on offer, just a short drive from the cottage. Climbing Mount Snowdon is a must with the views from the top being spectacular on a clear day, however if you’re not feeling that energetic, you could always take a more relaxing approach and let the Snowdon mountain railway take the strain. Whatever you choose to do for your holiday or short break, Groes Lwyd is a lovely welcoming home-from-home and is an excellent base for anytime of the year. Read More

Fantastic cottage

We had an amazing weekend staying at this cottage. The owners have created a lovely cosy feel to the cottage and there are lovely touches throughout, including an impressive welcome pack. The kitchen is extremely well equipped even providing the same Denby crockery that we have at home. The fully enclosed garden was perfect for our dog and there are benches dotted around the garden so you can make best use of the sun, not that we had much during our stay. We did use the wood burning hot tub which has fantastic views of the Berwyns. We had some great dog walks and paddle boarding nearby. I wish we could have stayed longer and will defiantly be coming back - it’s perfect

Fantastic cottage

We visited for the weekend with friends. This place has everything you need and more, all the home comforts you need and lots of space inside and out. There was plenty of games to keep the children entertained in the evenings. The views are stunning. Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon.

Perfect getaway

What a great time we had in this fab property. Spacious rooms & large kitchen where we ate all our meals together. The games room had a large selection of books, games and DVDs which kept the kids happy. Beds very comfy and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Lovely garden with amazing views of the snowy hills. Welcome tray was excellent especially for late arrivals. Local info leaflets & menus very helpful. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

Stunning cottage

What a lovely cottage! I recently stayed at Groes Lwyd and loved it. Perfect location for trips to nearby tourist attractions. The cottage itself was perfect for us a family. Large loving room with a fire to keep us warm during our stay in snowy early Feb. The kitchen had enough space for us all and we ate families meals at the table. The small lounge was used as a kids entertainment room by use during our stay, perfect for the kids to watch dvds and play in safely. The gardens provided enough space for the kids to play, run around and enjoy the beautiful views of the Welsh countryside. We can't wait to return.

Immaculate farmhouse in a stunning setting

Everything you could wish for in a home away from home. They have thought of everything. Beautifully appointed, great views and lovely garden..

Perfect home from home

“What a gorgeous place! Very quiet, peaceful and idyllic! Beautiful character with wooden and tiled floors. Log burner in the lounge, big utility room, small lounge which we used as a “tech room” and set up the laptop and telescope, downstairs loo, beautiful kitchen (which is huge!), pantry, 4 bedrooms - 1 en suite, and family bathroom! Oak beams throughout! MASSIVE gardens! Kath and Mick (owners) left a massive welcome tray with tea, coffee, biscuits, pasta, bolognese sauce, and loads of beer! Beds freshly made, fluffy towels provided, laminated maps of local walks! LOVE this place!!” Kath and Mick are both really friendly and brilliant hosts!

Perfect Pet Friendly Cottage.

We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this was amongst the very best.A large kitchen with a separate utility/boot room made this perfect for us and our two labradors. Two lounges, four bedrooms including an en suite and a magnificent garden too.Great location with so many walks close by as well as stunning lakes all within 20 mins max drive, plus much more. The owners are lovely and couldn't be more helpful. I would recommend this cottage without hesitation!
