We had an amazing stay here and we will definitely be returning!

We hired Hoodgill Barn for a week and there was more than enough room for us all! The cottage is beautiful and the views full circle were stunning. All the rooms were decorated and furnished to a high standard and the cottage was very clean. The garden had a fantastic hot tub which was well used by us on those sunset evenings and there was plenty of grassed area for the children to play. The little touches made all the difference for us the owner met us and have lots of information about the area, there was a book with lots of information about the local area, cottage, and useful numbers and it even had a blender and slow cooker with plenty of cooking utensils (not just you usual 2 pans). The local village was a short drive (5minutes) from the cottage and had a co-op for nothing we ran out of. There were lots of cafes, places to eat and drink and a lovely play area for the kids. A short walk from the cottage 10/15 mins there were some beautiful footpaths leading to waterfalls and a visitors centre for coffee and cake! We made this walk a few times especially having a dog with us and the kids loved the rocked area they could explore right next to a beautiful waterfall. I can't recommend this cottage highly enough we will definitely be returning!!

We were met at the cottage by the owner who showed us round and gave some helpful advice about the area. The cottage itself was spotless and the beds and bedding were very comfy. There was plenty of room for 5 adults and 3 children. The hot tub was a great bonus!

We had excellent customer service from the owner from the first call. The hot tub was amazing! The location was quiet and out of the way. The beds were VERY comfortable.

It was a lovely warm and welcoming place, the owners had gone the extra mile to make it special

A splendid property in an outstanding location.

The cottage was excellent, bedrooms were all very clean and had comfortable beds with hotel quality bed linen. Hot tub very handy just outside. An abundance of Lambs and rabbits in the surrounding fields was an added bonus. Nice big American style fridge was very handy meaning we had room for food and drinks to be kept cool. the owner was very welcoming and made us feel at home.

The cottage was really lovely and exceptionally clean. The hot tub was superb. The owners were really pleasant and helpful and told us to call them if we needed any help during our stay. Fortunately though, we didn't need their help with anything because everything we needed was present and in great working order.

Hoodgill Barn is a beautiful, well kept cottage. Great facilities and stunning views. Lovely attention to detail. Would definitely recommend. Will be returning in the summer!

What an absolutely fabulous find! Stayed here for a long weekend for my partners 30th birthday. Arrived to a very friendly owner who showed us round and explained how everything worked... including the fabulous hot tub. The house had been beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations which just made it feel so homely and welcoming. The local village is just a couple of miles away as is a great pub called the Strathmore Arms which is a must visit. Would highly recommend this property and we will be returning next year hopefully.

Hoodgill Barn was a lovely little getaway for me and a group of friends. The cottage itself was very clean and accommodated our needs well! Despite the weather, we enjoyed a relaxing break with a change of scenery and not to mention a cheeky dip in the hot tub! Would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a quiet and relaxed break; good for a catch up with a group of friends or family!

A beautiful cottage in lovely quiet surroundings. Was great to sit and relax with lovely walks if you wanted right from your doorstep.

Owner of the cottage was very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself and all of the rooms were really nice, the lights were a lovely touch. I would definitely go again and recommend! A great weekend away with friends.

Great cottage it has everything you could possibly need. The owner is very helpful. We would recommend anyone to stay here.

This is an amazing property, every single part of it was up to scratch, from the beds to the garden. The views from this property across the valley were just spectacular. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We had a lovely stay in Hoodgill Barn, well equipped and presented. Suited the needs of a wide range of ages in our group. Would definitely visit again.

Unfriendly neighbours

Lovely cottage with everything you need. Unfortunately if you like to sit outside enjoying a warm evening with a cup of tea the neighbours won’t be happy. Although this is a holiday let for 9 people the neighbours obviously aren’t happy living next door to it. Please be aware of this when booking it!

Awesome place!

We stayed here at the weekend for my mums 60th/aunties hen do. The cottage is so nice, spacious and clean! Lovely location! The owner was very helpful and friendly and really knowledgable about the area. Hot tub was great and well maintained. Great place will defo be returning xx

Ticked all the boxes!

Lovely cottage in beautiful location. Nicely equipped and cosy. We were 3 adults, 2 children and a dog. The hot tub was greatly enjoyed ,there was loads to do,with walks from the house. A lovely area to holiday and Peter, the owner, was a gem, and so helpful.

Lovely character in peaceful location

Stayed here as a family of 6 (3 adults and 2 kids aged 14 and 12) during the Easter Holidays. Welcome was good - Peter showed us around and made us feel welcome. The cottage itself has a lot of character and is in a very nice peaceful location. It was lovely to look out and not see properties everywhere just loads of sheep! As a family we particularly loved the hot tub and fire. Wifi was also good enough for the kids to watch You Tube. We also liked the fact that it was nice and spacious. Location of the cottage itself was good. If you like walking they are very close to High Falls and Low Falls. It made a good base for us to go out on day trips every day with many great places within a 1 to 1 1/2 hour drive. We did have some negatives: 1. Most other cottages we have stayed in have included wood and coal etc for fires in the evening. An initial amount are provided but any more and you need to put money in an honesty box (which we did). 2. Although the cottage was very nice and warm, it is oil heating and the boiler took a few goes before lighting up (quite noisy). On a couple of occasions there was also a very toxic smell in the kitchen. 3. No extractor fan in the kitchen. Utensils in our opinion were also in need of updating. We had to buy a sharp knife for chopping and also after the first morning of attempting to use the frying pan, decided to buy one. 4. Shower pressure is very weak. The downstairs shower could not regulate temperature - it was either very cold or very hot. The en suite shower was okay but the pressure in the upstairs bathroom was also very weak. 5. On the first day we had to ring Peter to report a leak - water was dripping through the ceiling in the kitchen in a place that it had quite clearly leaked before. We later deduced that it was from the upstairs bathroom shower. Peter did offer to come round and have a look which is fair enough but we declined. Overall we had a nice week away and the cottage served its purpose. However, we would not return as in our opinion there are nicer places to stay.

Mrs

We literally got back today. Loved every second. The barn is beautiful! Very spacious. The views from all angles are outstanding. Hot tub is brilliant. Spend a lot of time in there. We're already planning a return again this year. Peter the landlord is lovely and really made us feel welcome. Lovely walks near by and the village not far.

Ab Fab !!!

Just back from a weekend with 6 friends at Hoodgill Barn. The house is in a gorgeous location in beautiful countryside with a fantastic outdoor hot tub.the cottage is wonderful, lovely rooms, amazing views. The owner has thought of everything, bedding, towels, tea, coffee sugar, biscuits. We have had a great weekend and would recommend it to anybody. If you like walking it is in a perfect spot, just walk out of the property into the fields at the back onto a public footpath and on to the waterfalls of low and high force. Hope to be able to visit again.

Stayed for my 40th birthday with a group of friends. There were 5 of us in total and the cottage was ideal. Modern and spacious with character charm, clean and well equipped. The hot tub and log burner were superb. Location was quiet and beautiful. We walked to the Strathmore Arms which is a short distance away and then onto High Force Falls. Would recommend it. If staying with young babies and children the fire place might prove tricky unless a guard can be provided. We didn't ask as we didn't need one but it's worth bearing in mind.

Excellent

Amazing barn.. great views, location and the owner Peter thought of everything! Made the stay very comfortable, fresh scented bedding, tea/ coffee and milk ready for us and everything you could possiblym need! Planning to re visit and would highly recommend to anybody 🙂 thanks Peter!

Perfect retreat from the rat race

Two families of 4 stayed here the week of the Scottish Half Term break. the cottage is fantastic with everything you could ever need with 3 bathrooms ( one ensuite) and 4 bedrooms packed with character and charm. the owners and neighbours couldn't be more friendly and the local pubs are fantastic . Standout pub/restraint is the Strathmore Arms - take the public footpath at Low force, cross the suspension bridge and go over 2 fields and you are there - well worth the effort the food and patrons are fantastic. High Force and Low Force waterfalls are a must to see . We cannot wait to go back and miss the place already.

Lovely cottage stay

We were really impressed by the cottage and it's beautiful location. Lovely and spacious with some really modern aspects. All facilities and amenities superb. We used hoodgill as a base to explore the surrounding area including the low & highforce falls, near by Durham and a farm park a few miles away. A visit to Bowless visitor centre would be worthwhile, even for a tea/coffee and cake! We walked to the high force which would have been more pleasant had we not had babies in buggies! It was a real challenge which I wouldn't do again! Despite being warned it wasn't buggy friendly we made the journey anyway, it was a beautiful area and would highly recommend for others (suitably prepared) to venture there! We can laugh about it now!! My only comment would be about the 10pm hot tub curfew, it's not a criticism and I can understand why it's in place it's just that 9 or 10 would usually be the ideal time to relax once kids are in bed and that meant we didn't get to use very much during our stay. Overall would highly recommend to others.

Fantastic!!

Beautiful cottage with loads of thoughtful extra touches! Brilliant views and the hot tub is lovely! Peter the owner was so helpful and friendly! Would highly recommend this cottage!

The perfect location for a family get together.

We needed a cottage for a family 50th birthday celebration. We came from all over the UK. The location is convenient for the M6 and the A1M but is in a quiet beautiful area. The bedrooms one ensuite the others with bathrooms adjoining. The kitchen is well equipped, a comfy lounge with wood burner a big dinning room with a garden room. Leading to a hot tub. Walk out of the back garden to High Force,Low Force waterfalls and Gibsons Cave three amazing sights within this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Mrs

I spent a fantastic long weekend with 5 of my girl friends enjoying the fabulous amenities that Hoodgill Barn had to offer. Peter was so helpful from the minute I contacted him to the end of our stay. The weather was pretty awful all weekend but the wood burning stove and hot tub made it a real joy to snuggle up warm and enjoy a weekend of relaxation. I highly recommend families and a group of friends to enjoy this lovely holiday home and it's beautiful surroundings. We have already said that we will be back!

Mrs

Wow!!! from the moment Sharon and her hubby checked in Peter was very helpful and informative with the cottage and surrounding areas. Myself and family arrived to simply be amazed by this property. It's roomy, clean and has everything you need home from home. So much so we've already booked for next year. (we would usually always look a new property ) Thanks Peter for everything.

Fantastic Cottage for a relaxing break

stayed at Hoodgill Barn for a long weekend. On arrival we were met by Peter, the owner, who was very friendly and showed us around. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable with lots of lovely touches. Home from home. The hot tub was great for relaxing and there was seating in the garden (round picnic table and 2 benches. The sunroom allows you to enjoy that outside but in feeling if the weather is cool. The village of Middleton in Teesdale is nearby and has shops, coffee shops and a few bars. Can recommend the Teesdale Hotel for very reasonably priced lovely Sunday roast. The town of Barnard Castle is larger if more choice is needed. The High Force waterfall is outstanding to see. A perfect location for a relaxing break
