General Info

Dunmore 3.5 miles. This superb, detached cottage with hot tub and natural swimming pool sits on the owner’s farm, just a few miles outside the town of Dunmore in County Galway, close to the borders of counties Mayo and Roscommon. Tastefully renovated, this stone-built, single-storey cottage echoes the characteristics of a traditional Irish dwelling, but with all the modern comforts and conveniences of a contemporary building. The main body of the property encompasses a superb open plan living area with a tall ceiling adorned with grand apex beams, and with stylish, sleek furnishings and wide patio doors, the well-equipped kitchen with dining area looks out the rear garden. Retire to the cosy sitting area, which is complete with a woodburning stove for chilly evenings, and sink into the sumptuous leather corner sofa. Three double bedrooms lie towards the back of the cottage, one with en-suite facilities and a door to the garden, and each is furnished to a high standard so you can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. To the rear are the beautifully maintained gardens where you can relax in an Irish paradise with a natural swimming pool and heated hot tub, the perfect recipe to wind down after a day of sight seeing! Why not settle in the summerhouse and dine alfresco, making the most of those sunny afternoons with your loved ones? As the owner is a keen beekeeper and farmer, you can sample some of the local honey, and children are welcome to feed the animals, adding to the wonderful country experience at this cottage. Guests can pass a couple of hours playing darts or pool in the separate spacious games room, which also has golf clubs and bikes, courtesy of the owner so you can make the most of your Irish getaway! The town of Dunmore is roughly half an hour’s drive from Knock Airport; set beside the Sinking River, it’s home to a selection of shops and pubs and the iconic Dunmore Castle, which watches over the water. The ruins of an old Augustinian church also lie to the east of the town, and with a large number of ring forts in and around Dunmore, history lovers will adore this area. Venture to the city of Galway and meander the cobbled streets, soaking up the atmosphere, or spend the day in the charming town of Westport with its pretty cafes and galleries. A wonderful destination with everything you could wish for! Read More

The cottage was homely with some nice touches. The garden was beautiful and private and the pool and hot tub a bonus. The views across the fields were spectacular. The cottage was central to explore plenty of Ireland in all directions. The beds were comfortable. The owners were friendly but not intrusive.

This is an exceptional property only made more appealing by the hosts. We had a fantastic holiday and hope to return again soon!

The property is modern and extremely well equipped. The hot tub and pool were excellent features. The owners were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

It was the perfect Irish retreat in a beautiful setting. The Irish welcome and the homeliness of The Visiting House was heavenly. We can't wait to return and for longer next time!

An exceptional property, very peaceful and relaxing. Did not want to go home. The hosts were fantastic, could not have been more friendly or helpful.

The Visiting House was very comfortable and very well equipped. The games room and hot tub went down very well with everyone.

The owners gave us such a warm welcome and really went that extra mile to make sure we had a good holiday. The cottage itself was just lovely, it really was a fabulous place to stay and we couldn't praise it enough. We can't wait to go back!

I could not fault one thing about this house or the people who own it. It felt like a home away from home. I will be coming back again, I loved every minute of it and can't wait to come back again.

A beautiful cottage with everything in it. Would go back again tomorrow.

Cottage was ideal for our family of 5. Secure garden for allowing the children out to play. Suitable base for exploring Galway and surrounding areas.

A wonderful place!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Visiting House between 27th July and 3rd August 2019. Peter & Elsa were wonderful hosts and have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into creating the perfect retreat - the cottage is cosy and well equipped (there was nothing we needed that wasn't there). Beds were very comfortable and the property was very clean. Great location for those who love peace and quiet, but within close proximity to local shops, takeaways, eateries and places for days out. Our visit to Lough Key country park and activity centre and Galway were amongst our favourite. We made good use of the BBQ, natural plunge pool, hot tub, games room, bikes and enjoyed greetings from the 2 dogs Oliver and Darragh, not forgetting Honey (horse) and Henry (donkey) at the end of the driveway - who loved a daily treat of carrots/ apples. Thanks Peter & Elsa, we had a fab stay, were blessed with great weather and were sad to leave. If you are reading this review and are wondering if you should book a stay at The Visiting House - do it! The Visiting House is a place which is good for the soul and perfect for creating memories from.

Just Perfect!

We did have a great week at the visiting house. Even thought it was January and the weather was a bit dull, the house was a perfect nest, clean, bright and spacious, super well equipped, altogether very conformable. Peter and Elsa (and Oliver & Darragh) were very friendly and welcoming. Love that part of Ireland, it's beautiful, we will have to give it a go during the summer time... Thanks again for having us,

Unbelievable

This is the perfect house for a weekend getaway. Myself and 5 friends booked this as the games room and hot tub appealed to us. Few beers and play pool. owner was very nice and we can't wait to go back.

Mrs

Superb self catering stay. The Visiting House is a wonderfully renovated 3 bed cottage set in rural Co. Galway. We had a fantastic time exploring the wild countryside on foot and using the bicycles provided by the hosts. The hot tub and natural swimming pool were enjoyed by all as well as the pool table and air hockey in the games room. We will definitely be coming again.

Welcoming stay

I have never considered staying in a cottage and after do a few searches and making a few enquiries we decided to book up and stay in this cottage unfortunately we could only stay one week in this one due to the cottages being popular. I can certainly say a choice well picked the cottage is stunning with lots to do at the cottage itself that we didnt need to worry about going places. The views are spectacular and very peaceful. The history of the cottage itself was interesting to know. Peter and Elsa the owners were lovely, friendly and welcoming especially with the homemade scones, jam and wine waiting after our long journey to Dunmore.... thank you. The family and i enjoyed our stay at the visiting house and would highly recommend staying... especially if you don't mind dogs, a horse and donkey all friendly and lovely animals. Thanks for having us i would definitely stay again.

Superb accommodations

The cottage is updated with all the modern amenities and is so cozy, and is nested in the countryside, a short drive into Dunmore, not far from Tuam, the owners Peter and Elsa are lovely people, and went all out to make sure we had everything we needed, anything you could think of they had; even made us home made bread and left a lovely bottle of wine. It's been an unforgettable experience.
